Interview Transcript

Amethylia, HS of Kyoto Foxes LC sits down with the Daily Horoscope

[Pedro Salazar, OWL Reporter for the Daily Horoscope] The Foxes have performed admirably in their first two matches. What do you think has given the Foxes the edge?

[Amethylia (HS, Kyoto Foxes)]: You know, it's easy to be inspired by the fans - our beloved Foxtrots. We have 18 million fans and counting. We recently introduced Roxy the Foxy, our official mascot, and she's gone over a treat. Don't be fooled - the two games so far have been extremely close. But I think its knowing that people are counting on us that gets us over the line.

[Pedro] Great - about those foxtrots, they also include many younger children who seem to like the fox mascot - any words of advice for those who are growing up looking to be great OWL magicians?

[Amethylia] It's never too early to start training. A lot of these well-established clubs have elderly, wizened magicians, but you don't have to be. Take a look at Ricky Le Fay, for example - only 22 years of age and already playing a vital role in our first match. He has a lot of heart, and it shows. You can be young and still be exceptionally powerful. Never say that you have to wait until you're older. Why not now?

[Pedro] Ah yes, I remember a poweful moment after the first game when Steven gave away his wand to a young fostrot...

[Amethylia] Steven gave his wand away and Denna taught the little one the Kogitajio! We were just thrilled to win the exhibition match.

[Pedro] Speaking of the first game, not many predicted that Poe would come through with the win with the assist from Denna. It seems the Kyoto team displays great teamwork! Do they socialize together off the field? Do you do anything to increase the teamwork?(edited)

[Amethylia] In fact, that was the very first day they met. Poe was a late addition to our roster - I'd been pushing Hand Niko for just one more well-rounded witch. We had plenty of offers, but Niko kept turning them down until she found the right fit. And that was about two days before the season started. Poe was sure worth the wait though! The two have been inseparable at training ever since.

[Pedro] It's wonderful to see good chemistry.

[Pedro] To talk about the League as a whole now, I hear your also working on creating a “Sage Advisory Group” for OWL Parliament as well. Why don’t you describe your vision and the goals of such an advisory group

[Amethylia] Yes, a number of Sages met to discuss some of the difficulties that renewed uncertainty was providing for our teams. Obviously, in the inaugural season there's always going to be little tweaks that need to be made. But the fundamentals of the game are steeped in tradition, and I was concerned by some reports that Parliament were looking to make changes to the game without necessarily understanding what the practical effects of that were. And when I asked some of my fellow Sage's whether they thought that was a concern, I was surprised by how many were in agreement. We want to make sure that we provide the best spectacle we can for the fans - but that means putting our best foot forward. It's difficult to do that if the season plan is being written on the back of some parchment

After some intense discussion, we thought it might be helpful if some Sages could be made available to the Parliament should the Parliament wish to ask questions about the likely effect of their policies on the game. At the end of the day, they're the owners of the league, and they're accountable for their actions. We'd just hope to be able to advise them about matters which they're not certain about. A more informed choice is almost always a better one

[Pedro] Sounds reasonable. So this is simply to advise parliament on matters of sport in regards to passing league policies? Would the Advisory Group have any proactive authority or simply be available to advise?

[Amethylia] Look, we discussed the prospect of seeking some rubber stamp on things which would affect the season already in progress. But ultimately, the sentiment was that would be stepping beyond the role of the Sage too much. We were concerned about the level of tweaking of the game's rules that the Parliament was engaging in, but felt that it was partly because they lacked the information to make the best decisions. We're happy to answer questions if the Parliament wants to hear from us. [Pedro] Sounds like rumors of a Sage union were a bit exaggerated then. So moving forward, would you like to hint at how you plan to win your upcoming match with the Quebec 9 Stars?

[Amethylia] Yeah, this match is a very difficult one to predict. There's not a lot of gems up for grabs, and the numerical advantage that Quebec have in terms of witches is a serious issue for us. That said, I think we've got the plan to get the win. Let's hope that we are favoured by the stars :)
