Since I was old enough to cast a spell, I have been OBSESSED with Ludomancy and the following the best magicians in the world. Over time I've been able to discover some of the keys that have made the most magical of magicians a success!
Know Your Strengths
Ludomancy matches are not won just on pure Star Power alone. There are two other important ways Magicians can win points: Hearts & AQR. The courage and conviction of a player can bring out the best in them. Heart is a measure of that emotional power. Heart also has the important distinction of not being affected by Gifts or Curses! So when you're building your Path Party keep Coach Taylor's words in the back of your head.
AQR will come into play when a path generates 3 Gems. The last Gem will be scored by the highest ranked Magician on the path. Remember, the lower the number the more powerful the Magician is!
Class Acts
When you're thinking about Star Power you definitely want to keep a Magician's Class in mind. Ludomancy Arenas are filled with many different variables that could grant Gifts or Curses. Witches are good on Mountain paths, but if you place them on a Plain or Valley, they will be Cursed and cursing you for placing them on that path.
But it's not just all about Druids, Sorcerers, and Witches! What kind of Druid a Magician can also determine if a Magician will gain a Gift or Curse. For instance, did you know a City Witch would gain a Gift if they were on a City path? Match details can swing a Magician from being a hero, or a goat. Even the time of day could affect a Magician's Star Power. Interactions are still being discovered to this day.
While I can't reveal all of my research, I will leave you with one last interaction I know of: Rogue Magicians definitely prefer the dark of Night and are not fans of being out in the middle of the Day!
